Tortellino d'Oro is a beloved family-run Bolognese restaurant, founded by the Bollini family in a 35m² Johannesburg shop in 1986. Nearly 40 years on, it has expanded to an elegant Sandton Gate home, deli, bakery and restaurant serving handmade tortellini and the family's recipes, now paired with an ambitious new wine list spanning icon South African and Italian estates.

Tortellino d'Oro Sandton is a Coravin destination: 148 different wines, 54 by the glass. Guests taste world-renowned South African and Italian producers, Eben Sadie, Rall, Chris Alheit, Danie Steytler, David & Nadia, Gaja, Tenuta San Guido, Tignanello and Solaia, making it one of only a small handful of South African restaurants that have these icons.

GLASS HIGHLIGHTS

Subject to availability*

Tommasi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

The Tommasi family's flagship and a benchmark of the Valpolicella Classica. Made from Corvina, Rondinella, Corvinone and Molinara grapes dried for months by the traditional appassimento method, then aged three years in Slavonian oak. Intense ruby red, with ripe cherry, black cherry, wild berries, sweet spice and liquorice. Full-bodied yet elegant and never overpowering, with soft tannins and a long, savoury finish. Perfect with red meats, game and mature cheeses.

Du Bois Vineyards Chenin Blanc

The Du Bois family has grown grapes on Sonop farm in Koelenhof, Stellenbosch since 1931 — over 90 years supplying prized old-vine Chenin to celebrated wineries like Alheit and Bellingham. Fourth-generation Gabriël, who worked alongside Chris Alheit, now crafts the family's maiden label from heritage bush vines planted in 1982 and 1986 on red and blue shale. Pale gold and classical: white flowers, fynbos and flint over white peach, ginger and apricot, with a saline, taut, smooth finish.
